Curse you, Sallie Mae, CURSE YOU!

I’m trying hard to think of another company that can make me feel as miserable as Sallie Mae does and I’m failing. The IRS comes close, but I’ve actually talked to people there that are willing to help…

Today’s battle with SLM included telephone calls to four different numbers, being transferred to three different departments, and being hung up on three different times. This would be ok, I’d be willing to pay my pound of flesh, if my issue was resolved, but it wasn’t. Will it ever be? I’m beginning to think not. There seems to be a missing employee at SLM and this is the one and only person that can fix my problem.

I wonder what these folks feel like after a day’s work. I mean, I’m pretty civil and I try to remember that they’re just doing their jobs, and I keep my hatred for their employer to myself when I talk to them, but surely there must be others that are entrapped on the SLM slave ship of ineptitude that aren’t able to keep themselves from going ape-shit on the incapable dupe unfortunate enough to answer the phone.

QotD: Happy Birthday To Me

I'm quite a baby when it comes to my birthday. For the last three years it's made me sad because my mom passed away and she's not around for it. Funny, though, because she forgot it a couple of times and I resented her for doing so. Now I regret resenting her! How silly is that?
This year, everyone but my wonderful wife forgot my birthday. She sense I was bummed out about it and secretly called everyone to remind them. She doesn't know that I know...

Add my wonderful wife to my generally excellent good fortune to have survived this long, and you'll come up wit a very luck man. Happy birthday to me, every day.

I'm still at a loss...

I'm still at a loss for something interesting to write, so I thought I'd throw in a little more 'filler:'

My wife received her new Dell laptop yesterday and was very excited to replace her 5-year old clunker with something with all the new bells and whistles. She was disappointed to find that it was just as big and heavy as her old machine, but, hey, she doesn't travel with it and it's mainly for home use, so no big deal, right?

The disappointment grew, though, when she got home, booted it up for the first time and got a critical memory error! Oh, no! Then she restarted it and it froze! Then it restarted and didn't do ANYTHING! So she got on the phone with Dell tech Support. After an hour on hold, the rep had her taking her new computer apart, finally getting to the point where she just didn't have the specialized tools required to do as the guy asked. He said he'd arrange for someone to call her back the next day, but she'd have to get this special screwdriver. That didn't sit well with Wife, but she agreed and figured she could find the right tool and would wait until the next day for someone to call her back and continue the operation on her new computer.

Somehow, though, her call was transferred to a manager and he finally asked if she'd like to exchange it or, simply, return it. 'Hell, yeah!'After all that, and she was finally going to be able to return the computer she was learning to hate. The manager told her to call back in the morning and talk to Customer Service,no problem. She called and was told that she couldn't be helped right now.

'Why'

'My computer is down, ma'am.'

How funny is this? I finally find a space where I can write and interact with others and guess what? I can't think of anything to write about! So to fill this space, I present to you an Irish ghost story.

"An Irish Ghost Story"

This story happened a while ago in Dublin , and even though it sounded like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, its true!!!!!

John Bradford, a Dublin University student,
was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a big storm. The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.. only to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on . The car started moving slowly.

John looked at the road ahead and saw a curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life. Then, just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of no where through the window and turned the wheel. John, paralyzed with terror, watched as the hand came through the window, but never touched or harmed him. Shortly thereafter John saw the lights of a pub appear down the road, so, gathering strength, he jumped out of the car and ran to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just had. A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realized he was crying and....wasn't drunk.

Suddenly, the door opened, and two other people walked in from the dark and stormy night. They, like John, were also soaked and out of breath. Looking around, and seeing John Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other...

"Look Paddy.....there's that idiot that got in the car while we were pushing!"

"Bored at work." Who isn't right? How many folks do you know feel genuinely challenged by their jobs and appreciate that challenge? ow many of us sit at a desk and quickly change screens when we hear someone approaching our cubicle? Walk briskly down the hall with miscellaneous papers in our hands, looking like we have somewhere important to go, when, in fact, we're just trying to get the blood flowing in our lower bodies?
